Scripture
A Psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
3 he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
my whole life long.
Message Text
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light; 23 but if your eye is unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
In Becky’s Bible this was the verse that stood out. I’ll admit its not one I’ve used before for such an occasion but it fits. This verse talks about perspective and where we choose to put our focus.
For Becky she put her focus on the care of others. She deeply loved and cared for her family. For a time in her life she was a hard working single mother. Even though she was alone that didn’t stop her from fighting for her kids. She was a good mom that saw to it that the kids never hurt or wanted. This care continued when the grands came along. Picking the grandkids up from school and cranking up the music, enjoying life together. The care in having family over at the holidays. Her love of Rodney and their travels together.
This care extended past her family and into her vocation. Becky cared for others throughout her work life. In the medical field she devoted herself to others care. Working in the field of radiology and even to the extent of becoming an LVN and working with Community Healthcore. Care for others was an undeniable part of not what Becky did but who Becky was.
Becky not only loved people but loved animals, maybe a little too much at times. She deeply loved her dogs and her family members dogs. Her caring heart ran deep because caring was her focus.
Becky chose to care and to love. Much the same God has chosen to care and love us. That’s why we can have comfort today knowing that God loves us enough to say that this isn’t the end. This isn’t good bye but is instead more like “see ya later”. Becky is no longer suffering with the Alzheimer's but is instead restored and made whole in the arms of her Savior Jesus.
So for us today we have a choice on days like today do we choose to focus on the darkness or the light. Do we choose to remember what was so good or dwell on what is no more? Let’s remember the trips and the meals. The laughter and the joy. Let’s choose to think on those things and let that light fill our hearts today and in the days to come. Praise be to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Let us pray...
